'Ex-Acorn Alastair Turnbull
respresented St John's West Auckland group in a number of competitions
during the St John's national festival held in the Bay of Islands over Anzac
Weekend. He is shown here pictured with friends Erike Ng, Kayt Dent and
Chris Scheib.
It was a full-on weekend of
activities of various kinds, with many awards being presented to outstanding
young people training to serve their communities. Alastair distinguished
himself by gaining Third Place for Team Leadership against stiff
competition.'

'Ex-Acorn
student Alastair Turnbull further distinguished himself when an emergency
situation presented itself recently. As a qualified and experienced
first-aider with the St John's Ambulance organisation, Alastair was first on
the scene after a motor accident left ten-year-old Layla Buck lying on the
roadway in the suburb of Mt Albert.
With
the help of three other prefects from Kelston Boys' High School - along
with ex-Head Boy Eddie Tuaivii - Alastair succeeded in giving vital first
aid to the seriously injured and unconscious little girl, as well as
controlling the traffic around the area.
The
five boys continued to provide assistance at the scene until an ambulance took
Layla to hospital, where she received an operation for a severely
fractured leg and a broken shoulder.
Alastair
and his friends were thanked in person by Layla's family, and also received a
thank-you letter from Layla's school.
Kelston
Boys' High School and Acorn Academy can both be very proud of Alastair's
outstanding contribution.'
